Bass Coast Festival invites applications for a Production Office Practicum Student.
OVERVIEW OF ROLE
The Production Office practicum student supports Bass Coast’s data and content workflows for the 2026 season. The role centres on data management support, department profile preparation, basic graphic design tasks, and Run of Show support. Term dates are January 5 to April 17, 2026. The format is remote with structured training and regular check-ins.
Eligibility: Available Jan 5–Apr 17, 2026 and enrolled in Capilano University’s AEM for-credit practicum this term.
ABOUT BASS COAST
Bass Coast is a thoughtfully curated boutique electronic music and art festival held in Merritt, B.C., on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Nlaka’pamux and Syilx people.
Now celebrating its 18th year, Bass Coast is an independent and artist-owned festival with accolades that include two consecutive wins of DJ Mag’s ‘Best Boutique Festival in North America’. Bass Coast operates without sponsorship and is committed to upholding its founding ethical values, ethos, and environmental commitments.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Google Sheets: clean, standardise, and maintain datasets used across departments.
- Department profiles: prepare entries for performance, music artists, food, market, spa, interactive art, and murals (proofreading, link checks, formatting).
- Event Management and Project Management Software: enter and verify records where needed; map fields and spot-check for errors.
- Run of Show: update tech requirements, format stage sheets and stage manager schedules; keep links between the main data sheet and stage sheets intact.
- Basic graphic design support: assist with simple, template-based assets and light edits (resizing, cropping, exporting to specs); apply brand guidelines, basic layout and colour principles; prepare charts or visuals from Sheets; add alt text; organise source files and exports.
- Collaboration: follow file structures, version control, and accessibility basics; flag data issues early; keep simple weekly summaries of progress.
- Partnership and purchasing research: source and compare vendors/partners, gather quotes and specs, log contacts, and summarise recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Comfort in Google Workspace, especially Google Sheets.
- Strong attention to detail for proofreading, link QA, formatting, and basic accessibility (alt text, headings).
- Basic design literacy: familiarity with layout and colour principles; ability to make light edits in tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud; export to platform specs.
- Understanding of copyright, IP, and privacy when handling text, images, audio, and video.
- Clear written communication and reliable task tracking.
- Ability to learn internal systems and follow established formats.
- Asset: experience with events, festivals, or production workflows.
- Capacity to work both independently and as part of a wider festival management team.
- Willingness and curiosity to learn.
- Must be legally eligible to work unrestricted in Canada.
- Note: this is a for-credit practicum; candidates should be eligible through Capilano University’s AEM program or a comparable post-secondary practicum route.
HOURS AND COMPENSATION
Contract Duration: Part-time, approximately 17–18 hours per week, totalling 245 hours between Jan 5 and Apr 17, 2026. Weekly cadence can flex around coursework and key Bass Coast milestones.
Compensation: Unpaid, for academic credit through Capilano University. Student is covered by CapU insurance once the university placement agreement is signed.

All Bass Coast team members work remotely and are required to have their own computer and workspace (whether at home or elsewhere). The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and work remotely with team members.
