Site Safety Officer
Bass Coast Festival is hiring a Site Safety Officer.
OVERVIEW OF ROLE
The Site Safety Officer is responsible for monitoring and improving safety performance across the festival site. This role involves conducting inspections of festival structures and installations, identifying hazards, and ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and Bass Coast’s internal safety policies. The successful candidate will communicate effectively with multiple departments, provide daily and final safety reports, and recommend control measures to minimise risks during setup, event operations, and teardown.
The successful candidate must be available to be on the festival site from Sun Jul 5 - Thu Jul 9, 2026.

Bass Coast is a thoughtfully curated boutique electronic music and art festival held in Merritt, B.C., on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Nlaka’pamux and Syilx people. Now celebrating its 18th year, Bass Coast is an independent and artist-owned festival with accolades that include two consecutive wins of DJ Mag’s ‘Best Boutique Festival in North America’. Bass Coast operates without sponsorship and is committed to upholding its founding ethical values, ethos, and environmental commitments.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Conduct regular inspections of festival grounds, including stages, tents, booths, and temporary and permanent structures.

Prioritise inspections of high-traffic and high-risk structures such as bridges, staircases, and railings.

Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and relevant industry standards.

Document findings, communicate risk assessments to relevant departments, and recommend control measures.

Submit detailed daily reports highlighting safety concerns and resolutions.

Provide a comprehensive final report at the festival’s conclusion.

Perform follow-up inspections to confirm that corrective actions have been implemented.

Liaise with department managers to resolve safety issues efficiently.

Support Bass Coast’s ongoing commitment to harm reduction, sustainability, and a safe working environment for all participants.

Review daily findings with the Reporting Manager and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Knowledge of WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Experience conducting workplace or site safety inspections.

Ability to identify and assess risks across diverse environments.

Strong communication skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting.

Confidence working collaboratively with multiple departments under tight timelines.

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Practical experience with spreadsheets (Google Sheets) and Google WorkSpace.

Valid driver’s licence and access to transportation to Merritt, B.C.

Experience working in event or festival environments is an asset.

Occupational First Aid Level 1 or higher certification is an asset.

Enjoys organizing and managing priorities with a sense of urgency.

Must be legally eligible to work unrestricted in Canada.
HOURS AND COMPENSATION
Contract Duration:
Pre-show communication and meeting: April - August 2026.
On the festival site: Sun Jul 5 - Thur Jul 9, 2026.
Compensation:
On-site day rate: $200/day
WHAT WE OFFER
All Bass Coast team members work remotely and are required to have their own computer and workspace (whether at home or elsewhere). The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and work remotely with team members. In-person meetings may be required.
