Come immerse yourself in healing, sound vibrations! In this rigorous, yet beautifully narrated Ashtanga and Jivamukti class, Loka Yoga Whistler teachers, Victoria Grace and Doug Craig will bring out the powerful sound vibration which leads to harmony of mind, body and soul. When you love music, you know that vibrating strings of the instruments fire up your own vibrating heart strings- a union with spirit. The music within this vinyasa class will be so ravishing that will it leave you stunned and pulsating in silence. This class emphasizes the importance of energetic alignment within movement, intention, bandha, drishti, and of course the breath itself - all the pillars of vinyasa. Breath is exciting, and it propels itself. It is the charging, dynamic process of life, roaring along. If you want to know peace, let the breath excite you. The breath is wild and magical, like lightning. Let go of your civilized self and welcome your wildness and your storms. You are part of nature, a part of the Earth, a dynamic and self sustaining little system within the larger ecosphere. “I am awake to the electricity of life. The dynamic power of breath is renewing me moment by moment. Nature is wild serene, and so am I.” -Radiance Sutras

Enhance your Inner Prism with Flow and Laughter Yoga
Studio, Sunday, 1.00PM
Ever notice how practicing yoga allows the light that shines within you to glow a bit brighter? Similar to how white light passing through a prism refracts into a brilliant rainbow, yoga enhances a person’s inner light and expands it into a beaming spectrum of colour and calm. But add some laughter to this mix, and the experience you create becomes even more magical and transcendent. Laughter yoga is a new twist on an ancient practice that aims to increase happiness, strengthen the immune system, and relax the whole body. It also triggers the natural release of endorphins that promote an overall sense of well-being. Join yogi/writer/nomad Kanami for this unique worksop that begins with a feel-good power flow practice that refracts into a series of laughter inducing exercises punctuated by a white-light savasana like you've never experienced before. In this safe, supportive space students are encouraged to get silly, allow their inner child some space to play, and laugh until it hurts so good!
About the Facilitator Kanami has been guiding people out of their comfort zones and into wild new places for almost two decades. She was a whitewater rafting guide for 12 years, taking city folk out into the wilderness, and training them to navigate down challenging and remote rivers in Squamish, Golden, Japan, Australia, Uganda, and Colombia. She has also been a dedicated yogi since the age of eighteen, and eventually transitioned out of outdoor guiding and into instructing yoga. Eight years ago she taught her first yoga class in the ski town of Niseko in northern Japan and called it Powder Yoga. Now Powder Yoga is a busy yoga studio which she owns and operates every winter. Her background in outdoor adventure guiding greatly influenced the style of yoga she likes to teach, and she is always looking for ways to push students out of their comfort zones on and off the yoga mat. Kanami encourages students to stay lighthearted and to have fun, and loves to create unusual combinations of yoga, activities, and subject matter. A few of her favourite classes to teach are: hip hop power, SUP yoga, outdoor prancing, blindfold yoga, chanting & guided meditation, and laughter yoga. The many summers spent rafting in Squamish and Whistler has created a soft spot in Kanami’s heart for the Sea to Sky Corridor, and she jumps on every opportunity to come home and visit (especially for Bass Coast). She is currently building a small cabana in southern Mexico with the intent to soon connect winters of running her studio in Japan with summers of yoga retreats and surfing in Mexico.

She was introduced to yoga by her gymnastics coach at age 16, where she instantly fell in love with the practice and knew that she would eventually become a teacher. Her interest in the human body and its movement brought her to UBC where she completed her Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology and Health Science. Nicola went on to earn her 200h YTT in Hatha with Open Door Yoga in 2011. She began teaching shortly afterwards and has been at Unity Yoga ever since. Although Nicola had always wanted to be a doctor, she realized along the way that the conventional medical system was not for her. Yoga was the key that unlocked the door to a whole new world of Eastern philosophy and healing traditions, and she soon realized there were more paths to good health than those offered by western medicine. She decided to pursue another four years of school at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine where she became a naturopathic doctor. Her studies have enriched her yoga teachings and her classes often focus heavily on anatomy and physiology. She is particularly interested in the nervous system and how one can use breath and mindfulness to balance it. It is in the state of 'rest and digest' where the body’s innate ability to heal itself, or the Vis medicatrix naturae, is active. With a gentile supportive voice, Nicola combines her knowledge as a naturopathic doctor with her experience as a yoga teacher and long-term practitioner to create a truly unique experience in her classes.

Yoga has always been a Revolutionary practice in the ways it invites those who choose it to explore the ideas and perceptions they have of the world and of themselves. Rather than live life with a model of reality inherited by predecessors, Yoga welcomes each participant to find and share her or his innermost nature and voice, deconstructing harmful ideologies and belief systems once held, and reconstructing reality based on the truth of one's authentic nature. Yoga asks use to contribute to the world in aligned and life-enhancing ways and gives us the tools to do just that. The session will lead participants on a movement journey that is revolutionary in that it expands them beyond limitations in mind and body to connect with their innermost nature that's infinite. A blend of myths brought to life, dynamic and held postures, skillful sequencing, playful partner work, and an exploration of the subtle will encourage deep connection among the many facets of the prismatic human experience. Participants will leave feeling open, steady, and recharged. Come prepared to sweat, laugh, breathe deep, and feel amazing!

He believes that Yoga is a path of curiosity, a way into the inner self, where you can ask questions of how to best meet your needs, whether those be needs for self-care, for community, for innovation, for play. Believing that balance is a verb, not an adjective, Jeff is a teacher who encourages students to find the things needed to support themselves in any given moment of life and of practice, and to stay present in those moments of investigation. A firm believer that this practice is one that should be accessible to all, Jeff leads classes in approachable language, with an emphasis on safe alignment, and a expansive knowledge on meeting the needs of practitioners of all levels.
